A scale drawing of a living room is shown below. The scale is 1 : 40. Show your work to determine the area of the room in square feet.

oregonduck (oregonduck):

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

is the scale 1inch: 40 feet?

oregonduck (oregonduck):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can either of you help me when your done?

oregonduck (oregonduck):

yea i can

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k thanks

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

so we can make a proportion with this: \[\frac{ 1 inch }{ 40 feet } = \frac{ 6inches }{ x } \implies 40(6) = x \implies 240ft\] \[\frac{ 1inch }{ 40feet }=\frac{ 4inches }{ x } \implies 40(4) = x \implies 160ft\] now find the area: \[Area = length \times width\] \[Area = 240ft \times 160ft \]

oregonduck (oregonduck):

so the area is 38,440?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no close

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

yes but remember the square feet \[38,440ft^2\]

oregonduck (oregonduck):

oh true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im getting 38400

oregonduck (oregonduck):

thxs @calculusxy for explaining

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

oh wait... @CJDOG is correct

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

\[38,400ft^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

want me to add the ip for my question?

oregonduck (oregonduck):

oh ok
