What is the image of q for a dilation with center 0 0 and a scale factor of 0.5?
Please help a.)(1,2.5) b.)(0.5,2.5) c.)(2,10) d.)(10,2)
(x, y) = (kx, ky) (x, y) = (1, -2).... \[(0.5 \times 1,\space \space 0.5 \times -2) \]
Remember, if the dilation is greater than the positive integer 1, it will expand, if it is less than the positive integer 1, it will shrink. 0.5 < 1, therfore, you are shrinking the image.
So I know that the coordinates of Q are 1,5 And because the dilation is less than one, the preimage is reduced rather than enlarged. So the answer would be .5, -1
Correct?
Err more like 0.5, 2.5?
Right. The one above was a test. I didn't want to give you it exactly, I'm glad you paid attention and realized I gave you the wrong coordinates. Good job. .5, 2.5 is right.
Thank you[: Your help is much appriciated
Also note, when writing (0.5, 2.5) you should remember this is not the original units, it's actually "q prime." We represent prime by putting a " ' " symbol after. So q = 'q, or, "que equals que prime."
They're not equal, they're congruent, but this is just an example. Take care.
