OpenStudy (brian22):

What would a loyal British Royal Government official in America probably have said in July of 1776? "The colonists have a better idea for government." "I think I will lower the taxes on the colonists." "I have to get on the next boat back to England." "I think they will welcome me here in America for good."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1776 was the year that the American's declared independence from Britain. Aka, the American's adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Guiding from that, a loyalist of Britain more than likely would more than likely not feel overly safe within America, hence they probably would've spoken "I have to get on the next boat back to England." So the answer is C.
