The simplest sugars are generally called _____. monosaccharides disaccharides polysaccharides

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Hi Ashley! The term mono means one and saccharine means sugar. Similarly, di means two and poly means many. Which one do you think should be the simplest?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Abhisar monosaccharids thank you for explaining it the way you did.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Polysaccharides are complex sugar molecule which are composed of many smaller sugar units. E.g. Cellulose. It is made up of many glucose units. Disaccharides are made up of two smaller sugar units. E.g. Sucrose (Table sugar), it is made up of glucose and fructose units.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Monosaccharides on the other hand are simplest sugar molecule and they cannot be simplified further. E.g. Fructose, glucose etc.
