I know but its the declaration was actually singed by the king on july 2, 1776 but then why would we celebrate it on the 4th

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in the textbook is written that after considerable debate the motion was adopted nearly a month later, on July 2, 1776

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

July 4 is when the Congress approved the final wording of the constitution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"John adams wrote confidently that ever thereafter, july 2 would be celebrated annually with fireworks. But something more was required."

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I don't know much about what John Adams said....I just celebrate July 4th with fireworks like the majority of most Americans do :)
