One example of irony in the Outsiders is when one of the Soc's say to Ponyboy
"Hey, grease". We're gonna do you a favor, greaser. We're gonna cut all that long greasy hair off".
(page 5) Because his best friend, Johnny, is the one who ends up cutting it off.
"We're gonna cut our hair, and you're gonna bleach yours."
(page 71)
A good example of irony is when Johnny lays in his hospital bed dying and says"
"You want to know something, Ponyboy.

Thanks :) That is something I could use for situational irony.
But I need to find an example of dramatic irony. The example my school gave me was romeo and Juliet, romeo thinks Juliet is dead but the audience knows she is alive. So I am trying to find something like that in The Outsiders.

the Gold poem reffered to his innocence. "Staying gold" means like, not having your childhood ripped away from you. Not seeing things young teens should see. Not seeing your best friend murder someone. So, Johnny took Ponyboys innocence before he even said to "stay gold".
