Why is Persian Gulf War cited by some as an event that fueled Islamic extremism?

Following the war, Kuwait became a center of terrorist activity. Following the war, the United States refused entry to all Muslim immigrants from the region. Islamic extremists did not exist prior to the Persian Gulf War. Islamic extremists resented U.S. intervention and influence in the Middle East.
