A dump truck can hold 2 tons of gravel. The pay loader loading the truck puts 750 pounds of gravel in the truck at one time. How many loads does the pay loader need to dump in the truck before it is full?
Hey :) the first step would be to find out how many pounds are in a ton, do you know?
Yes, I do know, there are 2000 pounds right?
Absolutely!! So now since there are TWO tons, we need to figure out the following: 2000 x 2 = ?
That's 4000 pounds.
Perfect. So now, since the loader can only load 750 pounds at a time, we have: 2 tons divided by 750 pounds. Which we changed to: 4000pounds/750pounds = ?
Approximately 50 pounds.
hm, try again. Just do: 4000 divided by 750
Oh! 5.3 repeating?
Yes! Now, the loader person can't really do just .3 of a loading, it'd have to be a whole other load, right? So the loader has to dump 6 (rounded up from 5.3) times until the truck is full :)
Does that all make sense?
Kind of, but I don't get how you got 6 from 5.3(sorry if it sounds rude but, I don't mean to be)
No, you're fine! If you want to be precise, 5.3 is the correct answer. I rounded up to 6 because the question asks how many times the loader has to dump. So even if he fills just one third (the three after the 5) he still has to dump again
Was that explanation helpful at all? haha if not that's ok! Just let me know
No. No, it was really helpful, thanks! But if you mine I have a question. Not to sound weird or anything but do you have facebook? I would like to be friends with you, you are very kind and I have a feeling that we are going to be good friends. (Sorry if its awkward.)
Sorry, I don't give that out :) you are very kind too! good job with math. Study hard!!
Oh, okay :) Well thanks anyway!
No problem!
Bye! I might post some other math questions. I hope you can help me with those too. You're very good at math!
Sorry for the profile, I am a huge fan of Owl City but, I am a female.
