I can't find the directions to te first 3 problems. There is some code that I know I am supposed to add to. But I don't understand the task it is asking me to complete.

In this course, you're frequently given a program and you have to add to it for your assignments.  All of the stuff for assignments are in the contents/assignments folder when you download and expand the course materials.
