please help! i will give a medal! In the basketball game, Sarah made three times as many 2-point shots as 3-point shots. She made 8 shots in all. How many 2-point shots did she make? A.2 B.3 C.5 D.6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's D. 6 Because if she made 2 three point shots and it's 3 times as many two point shots 2 x 3= 6 6 plus 2= 8 so 6 is the answer

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

She made x number of 3-point shots. She made 3 times as many 2-point shots, so she made 3x number of 2-point shots. She made 8 shots in total, so we have the equation: x + 3x = 8 4x = 8 x = 2 Since x = number of 3-point shots, she made 2 3-point shots. Then 3x = number of 2-point shots, so 3(2) = 6 2-point shots. Answer: She made 6 2-point shots.
