What is the mean of (-2), (-3), 0, 2, 1, 3? Can you explain the answer in steps please? I'm having a touch time understanding!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Count them, how many numbers have you got ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

good, add them up, what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you subtract the negatives?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes, but do see that you're just adding : (-2) + (-3) + 0 + 2 + 1 + 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The last 3 was also supposed to be a negative, haha. I got -5.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Okay, so the mean is -5/6

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

As you can see, to find mean of a bunch of numbers, we simply add them and divide by the count

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ahhh okay, so the answer is -5/6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, but how am I supposed to divide?
