How did World War One Start ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The assassination of Franz Ferdinand. But there were many events prior to that, that definitely had a part in it.

The main reason for the beginning of the war was that Great Britain, Spain, France and some other countries had extensive colonies, while other (Austria, Germany and so on) hadn't had them. The assassination of Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip was just used as an excuse. After assassination Austria demanded unreasonable demands from Serbia (for example unlimited access to their govermental files). Because Serbia hadn't accepted their demands the war was declared. GB, Russia, Germany and other big forces quickly chosed their sides and world war broke out.
