@jim_thompson5910
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
oh so the full problem is \(\LARGE 10^{-2}\) ??
OpenStudy (mckenzieandjesus):
no idk why its showing like that
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
oh so it's \(\LARGE -(10)^{-2}\) ??
OpenStudy (mckenzieandjesus):
yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
the negative exponent tells us to take the reciprocal of the base to make the exponent positive
so
\[\Large -(10)^{-2} = -\frac{1}{10^2}\]
OpenStudy (mckenzieandjesus):
oh okay thank you
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
no problem
OpenStudy (mckenzieandjesus):
Order 34*10^2, 1.2*10^7, 8.11*10^-3, and 435 from least to greatest.
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
I would use a calculator to evaluate 34*10^2, 1.2*10^7, and 8.11*10^-3
get everything to decimal form and then you'll be able to compare

OpenStudy (mckenzieandjesus):
i think its 8.11*10^-3, 34*10^2, 435,1.2*10^7
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
where would 435 fit in there
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
you have it right so far
OpenStudy (mckenzieandjesus):
doesn't it go where i put it?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
Oh I didn't see it buried in there. My bad

yes you have the right order for all 4 numbers
OpenStudy (mckenzieandjesus):
oh its ok :)
OpenStudy (mckenzieandjesus):
simplify the expression
(7.26)^-9*(7.26)^10
wouldn't this be -7.26^19?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
I'm getting `(7.26)^(-9)*(7.26)^10 = 7.26`
hmm I'm curious how you got your answer
OpenStudy (mckenzieandjesus):
well i was thinking it be either that or 7.26

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
how did you get the `^19` part?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
oh nvm I see what you mean now
OpenStudy (mckenzieandjesus):
the two exponents
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
\[\Large (7.26)^{-9}*(7.26)^{10} = 7.26^{-9+10} = 7.26^1 = 7.26\]
OpenStudy (mckenzieandjesus):
oh ok
