Help Please !!!!!!! Can someone please check my work.. I dont know how find x/ y intercepts. I need help sketching it I have atatched my work in an image . :)

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

To find x - intercept, simply let y = 0 and solve for x. To find y - intercept, simply let x = 0 and solve for y. Sure, upload the image.

OpenStudy (marcelie):

okay. im about to uplaod image

OpenStudy (marcelie):

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Almost right, looking at the x - intercept, first thing, you don't have to put base e when you put "ln" that already means it's to base e. Also, your last step is wrong, you're dividing by -1 when you should just subtract by -1 on both sides so you have \[x=e^{-6}-1 \implies \frac{ 1 }{ e^6 }-1\], your y - intercept is correct though, so good work.

OpenStudy (marcelie):

oh okay. so for the x int is there a way to solve by hand . i solved it by the calculator

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

No, just leave it as it is, your teachers don't expect you to do know it as decimal form

OpenStudy (marcelie):

oh okay. about the y intercept is there a way to solve it by hand ?

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

I don't really know what you mean

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

the y - intercept is -3

OpenStudy (marcelie):

oh bc i want to solve the equation by hand for y= -1/2 ln (0+1) -3 inorder find the y int .

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

You already solved it for the y - intercept, you got y = 3

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

y=-3*

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

You already solved both x and y intercepts, that's what your work showed..

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

You just had made an error while you solved the x - intercept which I fixed for you

OpenStudy (marcelie):

yes i solved it by using the calculator. but is there a way to solve it by hand instead of using the calculator

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

You mean the algebra...?

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

You should be doing that by hand

OpenStudy (marcelie):

yes. that was my question. how do i solve it by hand bc i have trouble

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Those are the steps you use to solve it by hand

OpenStudy (marcelie):

yes that was for the x intercpt. but im asking how do i solve the y int by hand ?
