Help with simple arithmetic.

OpenStudy (zenmo):

How does \[3(1-\sqrt{1+t})(1+\sqrt{1+t}) = -3t\] equal -3t? Show how please.

OpenStudy (zenmo):

My arithmetic is a bit fuzzy in this area. Need a refresher.

:=)

Nnesha (nnesha):

\[\huge\rm 3 \color{blue}{(1-\sqrt{1+t})(1+\sqrt{1+t})} = -3t\] hint: \[\huge\rm (a+b)(a-b)=a^2-b^2\] apply this rule for both parentheses (blue part)

Nnesha (nnesha):

ahh i see wait a sec hmm

Nnesha (nnesha):

oh yeah nvm make sense ?

Nnesha (nnesha):

that's what i did first :P but yea remember we should distribute parentheses by negative one and then cancel out 1 |dw:1443969689374:dw|
