Use an equation to solve. 20% of what number is 47?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need help

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

\[\large .2x = 47\] 20% when you write it as a decimal would be 0.2 because \[20 \div 100 = 0.2 \] since a percent is always out of 100 thus you are multiplying 0.2 with a certain number (x) and the product will be 47

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

do you understand how i got the equation?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

@svl

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

and then to solve for x what you do is \[0.2x = 47 \implies 47/0.2 = x \implies x= 235\]

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

did i do it wrong?
