In the french and american Revolutions How did the people respond to the actions of the respective governments? For example, how did the American colonists respond to the policies enacted by the British?

Some American colonists were loyal to England, Some were rebels wanting freedom and Some didn't care either way. In France the majority of the people were rebellion. The were the poor and middle class. The small minority of rich had the power but not the majority. Most of the sympathy was with the poor until the bloodshed became very unnecessary and a new country evolved.
