OpenStudy (nudeoua):

A suspect is leading the police on a car chase. The officer reports that the suspect is traveling north at 100 miles per hour. The officer has reported the suspect's instantaneous speed. acceleration. average speed. velocity.

OpenStudy (zephyr141):

i'm thinking it's the instantaneous speed because. read this. http://www.physicsclassroom.com/Class/1DKin/U1L1d.cfm

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

hint: the officer has specified a magnitude \(100\), a direction and orientation \(North\)

OpenStudy (zephyr141):

ah! i see. it has magnitude and a direction. so it's a velocity right? being as speed doesn't indicate direction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Speed is a scalar quantity, so it only has a magnitude, no direction. We usually say that we are driving a car at a speed of 45kmph, we don't say that we are driving our car at a speed of 45kmph in the north direction, now do we??That would be weird!! So your only options are acceleration and velocity, both of which are vector quantities (you are given both magnitude and direction - vector quantity!)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 of them must be the correct choice!

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

yes! it is a velocity @zephyr141
