Well vesicles are basically phospholipid membranes that have unique properties and may have been the precursors of modern day cells. They have interesting properties, and recently scientists have discovered how to induce replication and growth in them. Source: I researched at the Devaraj lab in UCSD, where I induced growth in vesicles.
