What was the main function of the protocell’s fatty acid membrane? To allow sulfur dioxide to enter into the cell. To allow the cells to communicate with each other. To allow chemical compounds to enter into the cell. @kiamousekia

That would be C :)

could I have the reasoning behind the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i was too low

its okay (:

oops didn't see this one coming ! Okai as to what I know the fatty acid membrane is relatively high permeable to ions and small molecules. There a process like electroplating occurs. It results in rapid bilayer permeability. Thus the lipid molecules are rapidly shifts, opening up a pore that acts as the conductive pathway through the bilayer.
