2|x| = 3

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

If I divide both sides by 2, I get this: \[\left| x \right| = \frac{3}{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why would you divide by 2?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

since I have to compute the value of \(x\) now, you have to consider the subsequent two cases: \[\begin{gathered} x \geqslant 0 \to \left| x \right| = x \hfill \\ \hfill \\ x < 0 \to \left| x \right| = - x \hfill \\ \end{gathered} \]

thankyou

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

:)
