OpenStudy (kristen.4):

Using complete sentences, compare and contrast how rail lines and automobiles influenced the growth of cities in the US.

OpenStudy (kristen.4):

Both rail lines and autos promoted the growth of cities and allowed people to live farther from their places of work. When first developed, rail lines encouraged cities to grow outward along those lines. When autos were introduced, webs of roads were built in cities, filling gaps between rail lines and increasing the density of commercial and residential growth in areas surrounding the city. Automobiles gave Americans more freedom to travel within cities.
