The HL theorem is used to prove two right triangles to be congruent.

When Ashley said this: Ashley says that the CDE ∼ FGH, she used the similarity symbol and did not say that the two triangles are congruent. She said that the are similar. Ashley cannot correctly use a triangle congruence theorem to show that two triangles are similar.

The two triangles shown are similar because of the SAS Triangle Similarity Theorem.
