OpenStudy (raquelkelli01):

Ashley says that the CDE ∼ FGH by the HL postulate. In two or more complete sentences, explain why or why not Ashley is correct. Justify your answer using triangle congruency postulates, theorems, and definitions.

Directrix (directrix):

The HL theorem is used to prove two right triangles to be congruent. When Ashley said this: Ashley says that the CDE ∼ FGH, she used the similarity symbol and did not say that the two triangles are congruent. She said that the are similar. Ashley cannot correctly use a triangle congruence theorem to show that two triangles are similar. The two triangles shown are similar because of the SAS Triangle Similarity Theorem. Attached is a statement of that theorem. @RaquelKelli01
