Help!!! Write the equation, in slope-intercept form, that is perpendicular to y=-1/2x-7 that passes through the point (-4, 5).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A line that is perpendicular to a given line will have a slope that is the OPPOSITE RECIPROCAL of the slope of the given line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here the slope of the given line is -(1/2) It's opposite would be +(1/2) and the reciprocal 1/(1/2)=2 Thus the opposite reciprocal of -(1/2) is 2

So that gives us an equation y=2x+b.... Now all that remains is to use the given point to determine the y-intercept (b) of this line. I don't want to make this too easy so I will leave that step to you :D
