Jamal has 159 feet of leather cord, and it takes 3 feet of leather cord to make a belt. Exactly how many belts can Jamal make? Which technique is most helpful for solving the problem? A. Use a calculator to divide 3 by 159. B. Use paper and pencil to divide 3 by 159. C. Use estimation to divide 160 by 3. D. Use mental math to divide 159 by 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first two are incorrect because you need to divide 159 by 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And 160 / 3 would be a repeating decimal, so that's kinda counterproductive. I agree with D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as for third, I think it is easier to do D, than estimating 160/3

thanks!
