Scientific Knowledge by Ryen Comey Mrs. Buzzelli, Periods 2/3 Knowledge is important to have in the current world. Knowledge is always powerful, it controls the world in a way. It is important to keep up with the new knowledge just for this reason - how it is affecting the world. Scientific knowledge changes over time because people keep discovering new information. One reason why scientific knowledge has changed is to make complex information easier to understand and comprehend. For example, the food pyramid has changed because of new information being revealed, as described in Source Two. Officials are finding out that the standard food pyramid is "too confusing and deeply flawed because it did not distinguish healthy foods … and less healthy choices ..." for consumers. This presents a problem because people do not know the difference between healthy and unhealthy choices while looking at this representation of the food groups. French fries, for example, are made from potatoes, leading people to believe fries are healthy. Fries are not healthy because they are fried, greasy, and salty. The current food pyramid suggests French fries are healthy, but in reality they are not. The food pyramid appearing on food items have been so condensed, "many people have no idea what it represents." This pretty much means that the food pyramid is serving no purpose. It is so hard to read and comprehend that consumers don’t even bother to acknowledge it. Consumers ignore the pyramid, and this can be hazardous to their health. If people don’t keep up to date with the new, easier information that is being uncovered, people will be trying to read the more complex information. This could confuse them, leading to problems, such as not being able to recognize what foods are healthy and what foods are not. Another reason scientific knowledge changes is to ease consumers' confusion. The food pyramid is also a great example for this reason as well, still referring to Source Two. Since the standard food pyramid is so hard to understand, "officials are dishing up a simple plate-shaped symbol." This is an improvement because it makes more sense to have the food groups represented on a plate, because people eat off of plates, not pyramids. The plate "sliced into wedges for the basic food groups" is also an improvement because people can have a visual idea of what foods their plate should consist of. If people cannot understand the food pyramid, then this representation should help people to understand what is healthy for them and what is not healthy for them. Since "the current pyramid … basically conveys no useful information," the new representation, called the circular plate, should be helpful to help consumers understand what is good for their health and their bodies, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy groups. The new circular plate should also be helpful because the pyramid only shows the different types of foods, not the healthy and unhealthy choices that can lead to a downfall in their health. If people do not keep up with the advancing scientific knowledge, then the people of America especially, may get the healthy foods and the unhealthy foods mixed up, leading to problems such as diseases and/or obesity. In the current world, knowledge is an important thing to keep up on. knowledge is powerful in this world, in a significant way. Knowledge is constantly changing and affecting the world with every new discovery. It is for that reason it is important to keep up to date with updated knowledge. Whenever new information is discovered, scientific knowledge changes. Although scientist and many other important figures in the development of knowledge and technology have already discovered many things, many more mysteries are waiting to be uncovered. @CountryBoy15 sorry i had to copy and paste it ill try and see if i can get it to look better - my computer is acting up

Everything that is wrong with it are just basic problems, read over it once yourself and ull catch them all! Otherwise verything seems good.

OpenStudy (muscrat123):

can u tell me the problems?

OpenStudy (muscrat123):

plz @YoloShroom

OpenStudy (yoloshroom):

I think the only one is in your conclusion, i think u wrote scientist and not scientists?

OpenStudy (muscrat123):

really? thats the only one?
