Which algebraic expression is equivalent to the expression below? 8(4x - 4) 8x - 8 32x - 32 32x + 32 8x - 4

OpenStudy (ac3):

Distribute and you will get your answer. 32x-32

OpenStudy (fantasywolfpack):

ok

Which algebraic expression is equivalent to the expression below? (5x + 16) + 7 5x + (16 - 7) 5x + (16 + 7) 21x + 7 (5 + 16)(x + 7)

OpenStudy (fantasywolfpack):

this one

OpenStudy (ac3):

8(4x-4) is the original expression correct?

OpenStudy (fantasywolfpack):

what about this

OpenStudy (ac3):

Which is the original?

OpenStudy (ac3):

The top?

OpenStudy (fantasywolfpack):

no this

OpenStudy (ac3):

which?

OpenStudy (fantasywolfpack):

Which algebraic expression is equivalent to the expression below? (5x + 16) + 7 5x + (16 - 7) 5x + (16 + 7) 21x + 7 (5 + 16)(x + 7)

OpenStudy (ac3):

1st and 3rd are equivalent

OpenStudy (fantasywolfpack):

help

OpenStudy (fantasywolfpack):

Which algebraic expression is equivalent to the expression below? 9(4x + 8) - 6 36x + 18 36x + 72 36x + 2 36x + 66

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Have you tried working this out on your own? Distribute the 9 to 4x + 8, then subtract the 6. Follow your order of operations.

OpenStudy (fantasywolfpack):

yes but it hard and if i don't get this done i'll fail and my dad will spank me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What did you get for your answer?

OpenStudy (fantasywolfpack):

i think it b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Close. Don't forget to subtract the 6 at the end.

OpenStudy (fantasywolfpack):

can u teach me what it is i don't know and i don't want to fail

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure. Follow your order of operations, PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponent, Multiply/Divide, Add/Subtract). Starting with parantheses, we see that we cannot simplify (4x+8) any further. The next thing on the list that we can do is multiply. Whenever we multiply across an expression with two terms, we must distribute. AKA: 9(4x+8) = 36x+72 We multiply each term by that number (in this case 9). But we're not done yet. We still have that 6 that we must subtract. 36x + 72 - 6 = 36x + 66
