Mathematics 9 Online
OpenStudy (akathuria19):

HELP PLEASE! An open rectangular box with a square bottom must have a surface area of A square inches. Write a formula for the volume of the box as a function of x. Your answer will also include the constant, A.

OpenStudy (akathuria19):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets call the height \(h\) then \[x^2+4xh=A\] solve that for \(h\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the volume will be \[V=x^2h\] once you have solved \(x^2+4xh=A\) for \(h\) you can substitute it back in to the formula for the volume

OpenStudy (akathuria19):

I get h = ((A/x)-x)/4 Then plugged in it looks like: V = x^2((A/x)-x)/4)
