the sum of their ages is 60
x + (x + 2) + (x + 4) = 60 -- combine like terms
3x + 6 = 60 -- subtract 6 from both sides
3x = 54 -- divide both sides by 3
x = 18

x + 2 = 18 + 2 = 20
x + 4 = 18 + 4 = 22

check..
18 + 20 + 22 = 60
60 = 60 (correct)

so their ages are : 18,20,and 22
