hope this helps best i could find A spring tide occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned with each other. In this condition, the gravity from the Sun and Moon accentuate each other and you have a higher than normal tide. This occurs about every 14 days, and is not called spring tide because of the season of spring; it is called spring tide because the tides spring up, so to speak. A neap tide, on the other hand, is when the Sun, Earth, and Moon form a 90 degree angle. In this condition, the gravity from the Sun and Moon partially cancel each other and you have a lower than normal tide.
