A student thinks that because the sun is made of gas, it transfers heat to Earth by convection. Which explains why this is an INCORRECT description of how the sun transfers heat to Earth? A. The space between the Sun and Earth contains no matter B. Convention cannot occur in gases C. Earth can only receive heat in the form of radiation D. Electromagnetic waves do not carry energy

OpenStudy (mahmood786123):

I think B

OpenStudy (jadedry):

There are 3 ways for heat to be transferred; Conduction, Convection and Radiation Conduction results in atoms transferring energy via vibrations. Convection occurs in liquids and gases, hot or energized molecules rise up and begin a current. Radiation is nothing like the above two, as it does require matter to travel through and transfer heat. As space is a vacuum, only radiation can occur. Therefore the answer is c ; Earth can only receive heat in the form of radiation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is asking for the incorrect description?

OpenStudy (jadedry):

As far as I understand the question, it asks you to give a reason as to why "heat travels by convection" is incorrect. Not to state which sentence is false?
