A function is ________ a relation. a.always b.sometimes c. never

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

A function is therefore a many-to-one (or sometimes one-to-one) relation. The set of values at which a function is defined is called its domain, while the set of values that the function can produce is called its range.

your answer is always @siahniya16

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

please don't give put direct answers @amarimiller explain your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Always. The definition that I learned was that "A function is a relation that obeys the function rule." Where the function rule was another thing we had learned. @siahniya16

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@AlexandervonHumboldt2 Your answer above is not correct A function is always a 1-1 relationship if y is a function of x then for each value of x there is ONE value of y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it sometimes???? @MrNood

OpenStudy (mrnood):

no - that is not what I said. I was querying the statement that function can be a many to one relationship. see this for a way you can learn about functions and relationships.. http://www.regentsprep.org/regents/math/algebra/ap3/lfunction.htm

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@AlexandervonHumboldt2 For discussion: I will accept that it may be a many to one relationship it is not a one to many relationship: if y is a function of x then for each value of x there is ONE value of y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok @MrNood
