help please will medal Read the excerpt and answer the question. Poverty was the cage in which we were all trapped and our hatred of it was still the vague, undirected restlessness of the zoo-bred flamingo who knows that nature created him to fly free. What does the author imply about the people in Lizabeth's community in this excerpt? They hated each other. They preferred working outdoors. Their lives were defined by being poor. Their special treat was visiting the zoo.

The answer is in that first line: "Poverty was the cage in which we were all trapped..." Everything the author says after that just explains how they hate how being poor because it has limited their potential.
