OpenStudy (ondinana):

Can someone help me? No direct answers please!! What is the union of the two sets A={2,3,6,11,16} and B={6,11}? a.) {2,3,6,11,16} b.) {2,3,16} c.) {6,11} d.) {16} (Also I have no idea what any of this is or means.)

OpenStudy (welshfella):

the union consists of all the elements in sets A and B ( with no duplicates)

OpenStudy (ondinana):

By elements do you mean the numbers in a set q.q

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes

OpenStudy (ondinana):

So if it's "all" elements, it's all the numbers in both sets combined?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

an example would be union of A {1,2,3} and B{1,4,5} = {1,2,3,4,5}

OpenStudy (welshfella):

note that I only include 1 once.

OpenStudy (ondinana):

OH okay. Cool. So then it would be 'a', because it contains all the elements and doesn't repeat any?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

correct

OpenStudy (ondinana):

Thank you!!

OpenStudy (welshfella):

its usuually written A U B

OpenStudy (welshfella):

U = union yw
