so we have 2 equations- y=x+4 3y=-2x+2 the solution of system of equation is the point where the 2 lines cross each other and we need to tell its x coordinate so we knw that y=x+4 putting this value of y in 3y=-2x+2 we get--> 3(x+4)=-2x+2 3x+12=-2x+2 adding 2x to both sides 3x+12+2x=-2x+2+2x 5x+12=2 subtracting 12 from both sides 5x+12-12=2-12 5x=-10 dividing by 5 on both sides 5x/5=-10/5 x=-2 so the x coordinate of solution point is -2 :)
