The thermohaline circulation belt moves water between the deep ocean and surface ocean. Subsurface movement of water masses caused by density differences resulting from temperature and salinity.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Surface waters it is wind driven....but the DEEP OCEAN current is slower and driven by dense high salinity part of the thermohaline circulation (thermo=heat ...halocline=salinity) Probably called belt because they work together in a continuous loop moving up and down.
