Combine the like terms to simplify the expression: 9 + 3 + 17xy^2 + 8y^3 + 10x –13xy^2 – 9x – 6y^3 ^ = means its an exponent Please Help ASAP!! I have no idea how to do this
Do you know what "like terms" means?
10x and -9x are like terms because they have variable and power (the x to the first power in this case. Simply combine them together (10x-9x) to get 1x
Make sense?
@Ryan361 Yes so far, but do I have to do anything with the other numbers? and why or why not? thats what im confused about I don't know if i should ignore them or do something with them...
the numbers in front of the variables do not matter. 7x and 4x are like terms 7xy and 7y are not like terms The variable AND power have to be the same to be like terms
In this problem, you are just adding or subtracting like terms
@Ryan361 Yes that makes more sense , thank you for the example, its just my teacher was teaching it so complicated and fast i didn't quit understand but thank you!!! :)
You're welcome, what did you get as an answer?
2y^3 + 4xy^2 + 10x + 9 well this answer was the first one i got , but im working on to see if i will get another answer because it doesnt look right.
The 2y^3 and 4xy^2 are right
@Ryan361 ok thanks , 2y^3 + 4xy^2 + x + 12 is this one right?
That one is right, good job
THANK YOU!!!!! :)
No problem
