I need help figuring out the area of this shape
OpenStudy (anonymous):
perhaps break the shape into familiar shapes, i.e right angles triangles and rectangles
OpenStudy (anonymous):
^^
OpenStudy (gabby_taylor1224):
@chris00 would this be correct? I break the top part into a triangle which gives me an area of 30 and the bottom in to a parallelogram that gives me an area of 42 for a total area of 72

don't use a parraellogram for the bottom section, draw a perpendicular from point E to point D, and that is another right angled triangle. then you solve for the area of the rectangle.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
draw a perpendicular from point A to point E too. and then a horizontal line from E to B
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you can break it into 2 triangles and a big rectangle
