Last Math question Gretchen and Ezia received equal scores on a test made up of multiple choice questions and an essay. Gretchen got 18 multiple choice questions correct and received 19 points for her essay. Ezia got 15 multiple choice questions correct and received 31 points for her essay. How many points was each multiple choice question worth?

hartnn (hartnn):

what have you tried?

hartnn (hartnn):

since they scored equal marks, we will equate the expressions of their total test scores.

hartnn (hartnn):

let each multiple question be of "x" marks, then, Gretchen score : 18x +19 does that make sense to you ?

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

What does x mean?

hartnn (hartnn):

each multiple choice is worth x marks, and we need to find the value of x

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

mhm, just wanna make sure that's clarified .-.

hartnn (hartnn):

each multiple choice is worth x marks so 18 multiple choice worth 18x marks and 19 marks for essay. thats how Gretchen's score is 18x+19 can you now tell whats Ezia score in terms of x ???

hartnn (hartnn):

i suppose you only wanted the answer?? solve this and you'll get it.. 18x+19 =15x+31
