Which word best describes the mood in this excerpt from Little Brother? I got home and made myself a sandwich and logged into the Xnet. It had been a good day. People from all over town were crowing about their victories. We'd brought the city of San Francisco to a standstill. The news-reports confirmed it-they were calling it the DHS gone haywire, blaming it all on the fake "security" that was supposed to be protecting us from terrorism. The Business section of the San Francisco Chronicle gave its whole front page to an estimate of the economic cost of the DHS security resulting from missed work hours, meetings and so on. According to the Chronicle's economist, a week of this crap would cost the city more than the Bay Bridge bombing had.
successful hopeless suspenseful playful

HOPELESS
well....sounds like DHS (Dept. of Homeland Security) went crazy with " security " and protecting the city from a terrorist attack...and it worked...but it cost a ton of money to do so. But I am not sure of the tone...
I am sorry but I do not know for sure....
ok thanks
@vera_ewing
I would say successful because of quotes like, "It had been a good day." and "People from all over town were crowing about their victories." These quotes suggest that the author and others were experiencing feelings of relief, success, and pride. Their accomplishment was this: "We'd brought the city of San Francisco to a standstill." They achieved their goal, so I'd say the mood is successful.
ok thanks so much thats what i put
Glad I could help! :)
