OpenStudy (photon336):

@rushwr

OpenStudy (photon336):

Which of the following has the highest melting point H2O NACL CH3OH HOCH2CH2OH

OpenStudy (yadu123):

Ionic has the highest melting point

OpenStudy (yadu123):

The only Ionic compund in their is Nacl

OpenStudy (photon336):

@yadu123 correct, i'm going to post another one in this question

OpenStudy (photon336):

I thought it was B too

OpenStudy (photon336):

@Rushwr @yadu123 an much easier way to approach this question is it asks for melting point, that's going from solid to liquid. if you notice at room temperature all the other answer choices are in the liquid phase.

OpenStudy (yadu123):

ok

OpenStudy (photon336):

the heat of vaporization does NOT depend on the following: the external pressure the strength of intermolecular forces the mass of the molecules the presence of hydrogen bonding

OpenStudy (yadu123):

I dont know?

OpenStudy (yadu123):

have you taken AP chem

OpenStudy (photon336):

I think for this question vaporization means going from liquid to gas so it's going to depend on like how strong the interactions are, if the interactions are stronger, it's going to require more energy to break those bonds and make it go from liquid to gas. if you notice, three of the answer choices are the same.

OpenStudy (photon336):

@yadu123 when i was in Highschool I took IB chemistry it's kind of like AP just the european version that no american colleges cared about.

OpenStudy (yadu123):

oh ok there is another high school which i didnt go too that had ib

OpenStudy (photon336):

IB = busy work that will ruin your last year of high school. It ruined mine.

OpenStudy (yadu123):

which is why i didnt take it. Its like having 6 AP courses at the same time

OpenStudy (yadu123):

An i cant even do 3

OpenStudy (photon336):

I wish had taken AP back then but I did the full IB program. I think for AP all you need to do is take a test right?

OpenStudy (yadu123):

yeah the AP tets

OpenStudy (photon336):

in IB we had internal assessments which meant that in order to get the IB diploma we had to score a certain amount on those. 6 IB classes 3 assessments each 6-10 pages one for every class + 10,000 word essay,

OpenStudy (yadu123):

wow

OpenStudy (photon336):

a night mare...

OpenStudy (photon336):

yeah stick with AP!

OpenStudy (yadu123):

ok thx
