1.Find the x intercepts of y=3(x-5)(x+2) 2.Find the roots of y=x^2-5x-14

OpenStudy (freckles):

To find x-intercepts set y to 0 and solve for x.

OpenStudy (freckles):

To find the roots set y to 0 and solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are their any answer choices?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

to solve the second equation factor the left side of x^2 - 5x - 14 = 0 this can be factored to give (x + a)(x + b) to find a and b you need 2 numbers whose product is -14 and whose sum is -5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i already finished the 1st one i got x=-2 and x=5 but not the 2nd

OpenStudy (welshfella):

as I said you need to factor the second equation first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thx i got it now

OpenStudy (welshfella):

you correct for the first one.
