OpenStudy (kristen.4):

Using complete sentences, explain how the increasing popularity of the automobile led to the growth of suburbs.

OpenStudy (kristen.4):

The automobile made living in the inner city less attractive and living outside the city more attractive. The increasing use of automobiles in the city led to larger streets and roads. Increased traffic on more roads made walking less pleasant or practical. City zoning encouraged commercial development with parking space for vehicles. Freeways were planned to meet demand. Because of the automobile, people who worked in the city were able to travel greater distances from their home to work every day. As zoning and traffic made the cities less desirable, people built their homes in suburban areas outside the city.
