For f(x) = 0.01(2)x, find the average rate of change from x = 3 to x = 8

Nnesha (nnesha):

f(x) is same as y so \[\huge\rm y=0.01(2)^x\] we need y value to find average rate of change (slope) so first substitute x for 3 and then for 8 to find y value

Nnesha (nnesha):

let's find y when x =3 substitute x for 3 \[y=0.01(2)^3\] solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Y=.08 and slope is 0?

Nnesha (nnesha):

y =0.08 when x= 3 right but how did you get 0 slope ?

Nnesha (nnesha):

find y when x = 8 substitute x for 8

Nnesha (nnesha):

well... i have to go find y when x=8 just like we did for x=3 then use slope formula \[\huge\rm \frac{ y_2 -y_1 }{ x_2 -x_1 }\] plugin x's and y's value
