hahaha! see alex

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no srsly @swolesammy what is it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is 98, because as @AlexandervonHumboldt2 said: anything in absolute value is positive: |x|=x |-x|=x opposite is the same number but with opposite sign: opposite of x is -x. opposite of -x is x

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The absolute value of a number is a non-negative number. That means the absolute value of a number is either zero or a positive number, but not a negative number. Examples: |9| = 9 |-9| = 9 |2.5| = 2.5 |-2.5| = 2.5 |0| = 0 |-1/2| = 1/2

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The opposite of a number is simply changing the sign of the number. The opposite of zero is also zero. For all other numbers, change the sign to find the opposite. Examples: The opposite of 5 is -5. The opposite of -2 is 2.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The explanation of absolute value above by @AlexandervonHumboldt2 is incorrect. |x| = x and |-x| = x are both true only for non-negative numbers. If x is negative, those statements are incorrect.
