A Critical Analysis Of A Raisin In The Sun Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun, exposes one of mankind’s most perpetual struggles, the notion of dreams v.s reality. Ever since man was gifted with knowledge ,he has been cursed and blessed with the ability to dream. Dreams help flue a man’s desire and are not something fragile like pride or happiness. No dreams are something special engraved into a man’s soul devolved from a constant yearning for more. If you take away all of a man’s earthly possessions from the cloths on his back to the shoes on his feet a man will still dream it's inevitable. It’s only natural for us to desire more it is an inherited part of our human nature this rains especially true for the Younger family, who after the loss of their father “Big Walter” soon became heir's to a ten thousand dollar check from Big Walter’s life insurance policy. Immediately, word about the check gets around to the family. With Momma’s name on the check ,Walter falls into a period of helplessness and obsession. The money seems to be on his mind from the time he wakes up to the time till the time he falls asleep ,it’s all he can seem to focus on. From Walter's stand point he feels the money should be entrusted to him. He views it more as an investment. Give him the money and he will make it back two fold from the success of his liquor store. While Mama’s sees things in less idealistic terms the images of her husband working tirelessly from day in to day out ,still race very vividly in her mind .She still can rememeber their earliest days together. She can recall the time they moved into the apartment together for the first time and the feelings her and Big Walter shared together. It Moresi 2 was them against the world so, to her the money is not just some check it’s her husband’s legacy and should be spent wisely for the betterment of the entire family. This sets the stage for the Person vs Person conflict .Walter’s spend big to get big ideology Vs Mama's more conservative realistic approach. Walter views his mom’s approach as a product of the world she was raised in to him she simply doesn’t understand and is out of touch .Walter still loves and cares for his mom very much but ,her actions are another roadblock aligning with the external societal force that’s always trying to keep him down. While from Momma’s perceptive the money is her husbands final gift to the family it’s not that she doesn’t want to support Walter’s dream , she gladly would have given the chance .It’s just that she’s been working her entire life and realizes opportunities like this only occur once in a lifetime so, there’s no room for error. The difference’s between Mama’s and Walter’s perspectives can be summed up….
