This problem comes from "Figure This!"† Every year many birds migrate. The record holder is the Arctic tern, which flies from the Arctic to the Antarctic and back. If the one-way distance is 9000 miles and these birds can fly for 12 hours a day at an average speed of 25 miles per hour, how many days does it take them to make the trip one-way?
They travel 25 mph so we would multiply 12 by 25 to get the average miles per day.... what would be the total?
Flying at 25 mph for 12 hours per day, a tern could make the roundtrip journey in about 60 days.
@Valleygirl its best to help the studier with the question instead of given away the answer. You must follow the Openstudy Honor Code.
This is where you will find, it is on slide 3 http://figurethis.nctm.org/pdf/ch/challenges_17-19.pdf
60 isn't the answer
300?
its 30 days got it
Valleygirl told the answer for the way to and back which would have been 60 days... Great!
