Antipater of Sidon was a Greek historian who lived in the second century BCE. His most celebrated accomplishment was his listing of what he called the Seven Wonders of the World. The wonders consisted of great architectural and artistic achievements scattered around the Hellenistic world, from Greece to Egypt and Mesopotamia. Antipater’s record of the Seven Wonders is important because today we must rely largely on written descriptions for our understanding of the magnificent creations of the ancient world.
