Craig has a job waiting tables where he earns $3.45 per hour plus tips. Craig earned $73.64 in tips during his shift yesterday. If x represents the number of hours Craig worked yesterday, which of the following equations can be used to find the amount of money Craig earned yesterday? y = 3.45x - 73.64 y = 3.45x + 73.64 y = 73.64x + 3.45 y = 73.64x - 3.45

He gets 3.45 an hour. So, we take 3.45 and multiply it by the number of hours he worked. So 3.45x "x" is a variable. We can say, if we worked 5 hours, then it becomes 3.45(5) which is basically saying 3.45 TIMES 5. Which is 17.25. So if he worked 5 hours, he made 17 dollars and 25 cents. Now -- we know he got 73.64 in tips. So all we do is add that to our 3.45x. \[Money = Wage \space \times \space hours \space worked + \space tips\]\[Money = 3.45 \times x + 73.64\] Or in other words

\[y = 3.45x + 73.64\]
