Find the vertical

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

when the denominator equals zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be A?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

not quite how would you factor x^2 - 11x + 24 = 0 ?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

You know that A is not correct by checking what you get for the denominator when you substitute the values of \(x\): \[x^2-11x+24\]\[8^2-11(8)+24 =64-88+24=0\]\(x=8\) is good, as the denominator is \(0\) there \[(-3)^2-11(-3)+24 = 9+33+24=66\]\(x=-3\) is not good because the denominator does not equal \(0\) there.
